- 1. When is a template, subscription or billing class information updated
- in the Control Panel Databases?
-
- A. If a Sysop uses the [T]emplate function in the User Profile Editor or
- User Log Editor, the settings in that template are updated to the CP
- user record immediately. If a Sysop uses the <S>et function in the
- User Subscription Editor, the settings are also updated immediately.
-
- If a caller purchases a subscription or billing class level, and the
- auto update flag in the Environment Module is set to yes, AND
- the caller's account has expired, the settings are updated immediately.
-
- If a caller buys a subscription or billing class level, and either the
- auto update flag is set to no or the callers current template has NOT
- expired, then the settings are not updated immediately. If the auto
- update flag is set to no, the Sysop must MANUALLY "authorize" the
- subscription. If the auto update flag is set to yes, the authorization
- is not needed. In either case, CP will update the settings to the user
- record when the caller logs on AFTER the current subscription has
- expired.
-
- 2. Why does CP wait until after the current template has expired before
- updating the newer subscription settings?
-
- A. This prevents the scenario of a caller losing time purchased with the
- current subscription. For example: If i purchase a three month
- subscription, I can buy another three month subscription at the end of
- my second month without losing the last month. CP will continue to
- support the initial subscription's settings until they expire and then
- update the account to the new subscription template settings.
-
- 3. When do the CP Databases and the USERLOG.BBS synchronize?
-
- A. At the time the caller logs on and passes throught the CP Registration
- Module (or nightly maintenance whichever occurs first). If the Sysop
- has edited the caller's information in CP, the system writes
- information from CP TO the USERLOG.BBS. If not, the system writes FROM
- the USERLOG.BBS TO the CP DATABASES. It is therefore imperative that
- the Sysop NOT edit data in both CP AND the USERLOG.BBS via ULEDIT. The
- data edited via ULEDIT would be lost in this example.
-
- 4. I have a caller who uses the handle HARRY" but CP will not send mail to
- this caller because it is stripping out the " at the end of the name
- and tells me there is no such user as HARRY.
-
- A. There are certain reserved items that are used within TDBS to allow
- programs to pass information to and from TBBS. Items such as ", & and
- @ are used for this type of operation and should never be used.
-
- 5. I am having problems with either TBBS or Control Panel recognizing a
- persons name with a * in it what's wrong?
-
- A. While there may not be anything wrong with using characters such as
- *<,#% etc. We highly advise you against letting users register this
- way. Certain characters such as %, @ and & are used by TBBS or TDBS in
- passing functions or information. Some of these could cause problems.
- From a user standpoint we recommend you not use them because callers
- can become frustrated trying to send mail to callers with extraneous
- characters in their logon name. Programs such as PhoNeTix also do not
- have the capability to assist the caller in locating someone with
- these unusual characters.
-
- 6. I am trying to create Billing Class Templates for a Billing Class using both
- cash (or credit card) and TABS but CP will not allow me to set up a billing
- class for TABS and either Cash or Credit Cards.
-
- A. You can not set a template to use both cash (or credit cards) and TABS. This
- restriction was done because most of our users surveyed indicated that they
- would use TABS billing for access to special areas or for an amount of time
- different from that of the Cash and / or credit card settings. The solution?
- Use one billing class for Cash and Credit and another on for TABS.
